Eat That Frog

Eat That Frog

Have you ever eaten a frog? Hubby has had snails, but can’t say I would really want to eat snails or a frog…
I know this is a pretty odd title… but I have been reading once again a book I bought a few years ago while in Aussie called, “Eat That Frog”.

Infact, I remember it was so good I read it from cover to cover while sitting at the same cafe for the whole morning. No procrastinating here , I got right into it…
I recently bought it again in the Kindle version so I could read it over and over on my iPad etc. I suggest if you have not read it yet that you do or watch this short video and it will give you an idea of what it’s all about… However if you have just said to yourself I will do that later… then YOU really do need to watch the video and or read the book. :-)

Watch the short Video Eat The Frog

(sorry it seems that the person who owns the video has stopped allowing embedding so if you want to watch the video you will have to press “watch on Youtube” it will open in a new window)

I have just come back from 2 weeks in Australia running some meetings and trainings on making money online. I loved it. I was also very frustrated by some who like to use every excuse and then simply procrastinate and not make any attempt to do anything and then complain to me that they can’t make money and my money making systems do not work. REALLY…. they work for me and for 100′s of others…..

Now I get that all the time. Every time I write a post on how I am making money I get email after email asking me how to do it and what to do. I take time to show and explain and still people walk away and tell me  “it won’t work for me or I don’t have time, blah, blah, blah”

I give you an example….. I was talking to a lady who really wants to make some changes in her life and especially her bank account. She does not want to work anymore.

On questioning her about what she wants to do she said, “I want to work at home, on the internet, I want time with the family and I want to be able to make choices and do stuff when I want to do it”. Hmmmm says me, that sounds like what everyone wants. So I asked her what she was doing about making the changes. She gave a lengthy answer to what she was wanting to do but not what she was doing. Infact in the end she was doing nothing, but she had every excuse why she could not do all that she wanted to do.

The thing is she has lots of Frog’s to eat, but she does not want to eat any of them, not the ugly ones or the good looking ones. :-)

We all have things that we need to do, have to do, and don’t want to do…. at the end of the day after talking round and round in circles to this lady we got no where and I decided I had no more time to waste. She needed to get on and eat some frogs so she could move on in both the day and in her life, but really when it came down to it, she didn’t really want the change enough.

I have had to eat many Frogs, and I don’t always like it or enjoy it and infact in many cases I hate it. But if I had not eaten I would not have moved on.

After my last Blog post Has Your Cheese Moved Lately I had so many emails as people shared the good, bad and ugly of what they were personally going through or what someone close to them was going through.
I also got lots of comments and a few of them talked about how they had made some changes in their lives. They had decided to start a business online. They had bought different packages from different people and they felt let down, and said that they had been ripped off as nothing worked. According to these folk the only people that made money were the people who sold the programs and no one else out there was making any money.
and so on and so on…..

I want to say this in defense of many of us selling honest training programs, we know the numbers.

The numbers are this, about 1 maybe 2% of people who buy programs no matter what the cost,  actually don’t do anything. Read that word again… ANYTHING.
The reason why the number is so low is because people are overwhelmed. They have no idea which frog to eat first.
Yes there are sharks out there that sell old programs with things that do not work. But as I have always said I have yet to see any so called “Guru” twist anyone’s arm up there back and tell them they have to buy. I hate it when folk spend lots of money and then do nothing, it is frustrating to say the least, as you know that they are going to say, “Oh I bought a program off this person and it didn’t work so that was money down the toilet.

If you are one of those who has bought a program and it has not worked, please ask yourself a serious question… “what did I do to make it work” Remember the number, 1 to 2% don’t do anything at all.

While in Australia I showed one of my income streams that is so easy to do and makes me a 5 figure income every single week, it takes less than 3 minutes a day and one person said they did not have the time. I nearly fell off my chair. I think they need to learn to make a list, abit like Santa Claus, writing a list and ticking it off :-)

Can I ask you today… Can you make the time to “Eat That Frog” so you can move on and make a difference in your life and those around you.

We all have things that we hate doing… I don’t really like doing SEO or Submitting Sites and a number of other things in my internet marketing business, but I still list them down on my white board and I tick them off when I get them done and have a huge sense of accomplishment.

Here is a small Excerpt from the book Eat That Frog

Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time

Mark Twain once said that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long.
Your “frog” is your biggest, most important task, the one you are most likely to procrastinate on if you don’t do something about it. It is also the one task that can have the greatest positive impact on your life and results at the moment.

The first rule of frog eating is this: If you have to eat two frogs, eat the ugliest one first.

This is another way of saying that if you have two important tasks before you, start with the biggest, hardest, and most important task first. Discipline yourself to begin immediately and then to persist until the task is complete before you go on to something else.
Think of this as a test. Treat it like a personal challenge. Resist the temptation to start with the easier task. Continually remind yourself that one of the most important decisions you make each day is what you will do immediately and what you will do later, if you do it at all.

The second rule of frog eating is this: If you have to eat a live frog at all, it doesn’t pay to sit and look at it for very long. The key to reaching high levels of performance and productivity is to develop the lifelong habit of tackling your major task first thing each morning. You must develop the routine of “eating your frog” before

Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time

  1. Hi Gail,
You must have read my mind. Just yesterday I was looking for my electronic version of the book “Eat That Frog”. I wanted to read it again to learn how to manage my time better. When I saw your post this afternoon I smiled. I knew you are a great internet marketer but now ……I believe you a mind reader too…lol.
I was shocked with some things you mentioned in your post….and the huge complains you hear all the time. The best one is the person who said 3 minutes is too much to cope in a day…..unbelievable! I nearly fell of my chair too!!!
Some people just like to complain….I hear it all the time myself when I share this business opportunity I got form you. One of my fiends was even crying that her life is so hard and she has no vision of getting a better life……..but when I send her more info on how she can change her life, I have not heard form her since. It is the same with so many other people who like just complain.
Taking ownership of someones life is a huge responsibility and not so may people are prepare to do it. To eat that frog is not a pleasant task either, but that’s what success is all about.
Thank you Gail for another great post. I have started reading this book right today, so I can manage my precious time much better.

  2. thankyou Urszula… it is a great book, I actually like the little video as well. We all need to manage time better thats for sure, and when you work on the internet time goes by very fast. It’s all about focus thats for sure.
And you are correct about people you can offer people all the help and advice in the world… but at end of day they have to make the decision. Sometimes I want something for the person I am talking to more than they do. Odd isn’t it :-) .
    Have an awesome week

  3. Love the excerpt given. As I am the person who procrastinates the harder task for as long as possible. Seems simple just telling you to get it over and done with love it. Hope their are many more gems of advice in it.

  4. Does this book come in paperback? I don’t have a kindle or ipad and a paperback book is easier for me to read. So can I get it in non ereader form?

  5. Who is the author? It seems like a really interesting book, part encouraging, some inspiration, a little how to and more. Basically sounds like a good nudge in the right way.

  6. Sure does, just hop on over to Amazon. Great book :-)

  7. I have just eaten many frogs of my own – lots of them ugly ones, some a bit better looking. Still got more to go I think however, the list of their names is definitely getting shorter. Now I know their names – it will be easier to digest having read your great page here. I will have to get the book onto my kindle asap. Thanks Gail.

  8. thanks for the comment Debbie, yes important to eat those frogs fast I have learnt, other wise they just keep hoping around and being annoying. Also I agree if you name them then it makes it easier as well. So go for it, go eat some more frog and add some garlic to them, I am told it helps :-)
