Buying and Selling Domain Names For Profit

I had some one ask me this question: “Can you make money Buying and Selling Domain Names?”

It’s a great question really, and many of you would say ohhh “that’s only something really smart people do” and “I have missed the boat there are no more good names out there to buy” and there are several dozen other excuses that I can think of that you could make as well.

Domain Names, URL’s or Web Address’s are all ways of owning some sort of virtual real estate. There is great money to be made in this form of Real Estate. If you think about it a domain name is very similar to owning a plot of land. You see, once someone lives at that “Plot of land” then that’s it no one else can buy that plot until it comes up for sale again..

Domain names are the same, once someone has bought the name it can no longer be used again. It can be sold but there will no longer be that name ever sold like that again.

Some will say that’s not right Gail, there is a Street address just like mine in another city or town, well that’s true, but it is not the same as yours is it, it is different, another words it is a variation of your address but it is not the same, the house will be different, there will be many differences….  and the same can be said on various forms of the domain name, you can have a .net, .org, .biz and a few variations but you will never get www.yourname.com again. Well unless it comes up for sale.

As I said it can be bought and sold and that’s where you can make an extremely good living.

It can be very frustrating though, I remember a few years ago someone bought a variation of my name and then tried to sell it back to me. I was really annoyed but hey, he was doing what I was teaching, he could have done it to someone else though In answer to your question, no I did not buy it off him, and since he has let it go. But all the same, what are your thoughts on buying another persons name and then trying to resell it back to them? Have you ever done that before, it was taught many years ago as a great strategy.

I was recently at an Internet Marketing seminar and there were some folks talking about how much money they make buying and selling domain names and also websites. They spoke of buying website from sites like Flippa that had amazing web address’s then changing the site if needed, then they would either hold onto the site or they would flip it for a huge profit. They talked about how easy it was, I have to say I have sold a lot of websites and made great money doing so. But have not spent time just doing the Buying and Selling of domain names for profit. I don’t think I have the patience to look for domain names to buy. I am like that with property as well

However I see that for some this could be a great way to earn extra cash online. On looking around to who is actually doing this successfully I note an interesting trait … that is these same people who buy and sell to flip also love to do the same with property. When the folk I spoke of earlier talked about buying and selling domain names and websites they also do property and apply very similar rules to their web domain business.

Be very careful about diving right into this and buying domain names. There is a huge word of warning here…… DO NOT BUY TRADE MARK NAMES…

I have been served 4 times from companies whose names I bought. I did not even think about Trade Marks and things like that. 2 years ago I got 4 letters one after the other from high powered Lawyers that were going to sue me for every cent I had…. man I was scared. I had a couple of the letters come that I even had to sign for… so be careful. In my country we are not used to all this suing nonsense, all they needed to do was send a letter and I would have taken it down. But there you go thats what some countries do all day they search the Internet seeing who they can sue the pants off ( as we say here) In saying that I know how annoyed I get when people buy forms of my name so if the boot was on the other foot how would you feel if someone took your name, or your company name or product and used it…..

These people ripped me off and I got hoping mad…

I have also had this happen which has been even more annoying…. I had 3 really good domain names, one had facebook in address, one had yahoo and another had another company in there, shall remain nameless…. they were extremely good URL’s and worth money… after about 2 years of me using them and promoting them, I got these letters telling me I would be sued if I carried on using them and to let them go immediately… well from past experience I acted immediately… then I found out, the letters were fake and now someone else is using the domain names grrrrrrrr. I should have realised as all 3 letters were identical, anyway hindsight is a great thing.

WordPress Plugins You Have to Have

Last week we looked at 5 WordPress Plugins that you have to have on your WordPress site, so this week I want to carry that theme on and look at another 5 that you will also need to use.

WordPress as a Website platform is quite amazing and if you do keyword research and also get the right product you will have a winner of a site. The biggest mistake I see people make is just putting in heaps of tags and or keywords and they are not that relevant to the article. So if you use the SEO correctly then you are on the road to having an unstoppable website.

This plugin will thwart any attempt to load your site in a frame. Optimal for getting images to rank on the search engines. This could be more for the geeky people among us, so if you still have no idea what it’s all about then leave it off or just go with it and add it onto your site. I love this plugin -  it makes me smile when I see it being used on people’s blogs. I have to say I only have it on a couple of blogs as it is only recently that I found it, but go download it and use it. I love the handwritten messages it does for you. Make sure thought that you get the correct one and that it’s  By Shareaholic.  This wordpress plugin allows your readers to submit your articles to numerous bookmarking sites on the Web. 8. Google Sitemap Generator

If you want Google to index all the pages on your blog as quickly as possible, then you need this plugin. It allows you to achieve this with a clíck of your mouse. It is just so easy to use so it’s worth downloading it. If you are not sure what to click on and what to change then leave the defaults as they are. Create a sitemap for it will please our Friend Google.

9. CommentLuv

This is another of my favourite plugins and I will show you in the video what exactly it does when you use it. CommentLuv WordPress Plugin allows your visitors to comment while adding a link to their own blog post. This will encourage them to comment and in combination with the Akismet plugin can get you genuine and informative comments on your blog. It’s very cool and it leaves a trace of where you have been and whose site you have commented on… take a look at it.

This of all the WordPress Plugins is brilliant as it allows you to track the links going back to your blog. For SEO purposes, you want as many links back to your website as possible, but at the same time, you want them to come from reputable and legitimate sites. Also we want sites that have a good Google Page Rank, which is different from just being on the front page of google. The WP Backlinks plugin WordPress Plugins gives you the ability to control and verify this. So put this on your list of to help you with all your back linking. It is not actually called WP Backlinks it is infact just Backlinks so please get that one right.

I suggest you go ahead and use the 10 WordPress Plugins that I have written to you about over the last 2 weeks. They will help you rank well and will help you to start dominating the Web with your blog. Also you will need to keep in mind that it’s the quality and frequency of content that you add to your blog that will determine its success. All good questions…. I have been blogging for a couple of years now; I have many different blogs covering lots of topics and on every blog site I have adverts and ways to monetize the site, so in answer to the second question, Yes! you can make money blogging, you just have to know how

6 Tips For Blogging Success!

If you want to make money through blogging, creating a popular blog is the key to success. If your blog receives very little traffic, you will not have much success monetizing it. No matter which method you use to make money from your blog, you will find the most success if you have a large readership. Because of this, making your blog popular and growing readership should be one of your primary concerns.

There are many ways to make your blog more popular. The first thing you should consider is who your audience is and who you are writing for. You should always write about something that interests you, and that will interest others. You may think that your new kitten is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but there are probably not very many other people who want to read a blog about it, unless of course your blog happens to be about kittens   It is best to find a niche audience that is large enough to support a wide readership but not too vague.

One of the great things about blogging is that you do not have to be a professional writer to have a popular blog. You do have to obey common grammatical rules and at least be able to put together coherent sentences, but you do not have to be a highly skilled writer. In fact some of my favourite blogs are ones that are what I would call sloppy English and the odd grammar issue and spelling errors as well.

1. Blog readers are looking for interesting, relevant topics to read, not the next work of Shakespeare. Make sure what you write is interesting, edgy, or even controversial. Popular blogs are never boring and add value to readers’ lives either through information or entertainment. Make sure your blog adds something of value to your reader’s life otherwise you will not develop a large fan base, and we need a large fan base to make it all work and to make the money that most bloggers are wanting from their sites.

2. Making your blog popular is a lot like driving traffic to a website. You can use many of the same techniques to drive traffic to your blog. Finding places to link back to your blog is a good way to drive traffic. Social sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and You tube provide lots of opportunities for this. You can also use social book marking sites such as Reddit, StumbleUpon, and Digg to promote your blog. Blogging on a popular blog site such as WordPress and Blogger are also good ways to make your blog more popular as these blogging sites help to bring in traffic for your blog.

3. Whether you blog on a blogging network or you have an independently hosted blog, you need to make sure your blog is designed well. It is true that content is king and if a blog has great content it may receive lots of traffic even though it is ugly. Having a well designed blog that is not ugly or annoying will help to drive repeat traffic. You want your blog to look unique, but not too unique. Keep with internet formalities such as blue links and use large font for headings.

4. You should break your post up into small paragraphs each with a headline if possible as internet readers tend to scan the screen looking for relevant information rather than reading everything word for word. Make sure your colors do not contrast too harshly and that the text is easy to read. Using good design will make your blog aesthetically pleasing and make readers more likely to come back and remain on your page. I see many people like to use the black background and white letters, I personally find that just too hard to read. I am sure there are many Baby Boomers out there who struggle the same as I do trying to read these most difficult sites. Black on white is fine, the other way round is ok for the younger set who still have eyesight

5. No matter where your blog is hosted, you should try to get it indexed by all the major search engines. Some forms of blog monetization require that your blog be indexed by search engines before they will allow you to participate in your program. The higher ranked your blog is, the more visitors you will receive and the more popular your blog will become. I would get any new site listed into the 3 main search engines as soon as possible and there is an easy way to do this using this Site Submission Link It also helps to send it out to all the Social Bookmarking and Social Networking sites as well.

6. All forms of monetization for your blog require readers to enjoy their stay, and their experiance. Before you try to implement your monetization strategies, make sure your blog has enough readers to make your efforts work. If there is no one to click your ads, visit your affiliate sites, or read your reviews, you do not stand much of a chance of making money. So make the articles interesting and informative.

How Often? … my suggestion is at least once a week. On this, my very own blog, I like to do all the blog posts myself and so I blog once or twice a week, sometimes more but if so, then I schedule the posts to come in over a period of one to 3 weeks, it just depends. In today’s amazing world, we don’t need to blog ourselves as we have all these amazing Autoposters that do the job for us. So once setup they will put in information on your topic as often as you set it for, both articles and videos. It is amazing.

What do I blog about?.. well it needs to be on topic thats for sure. So whatever the topic then you need to talk about it. If you run out of things to write about then either use the Autoposters or find someone you can interview. Once you interview them, then you can turn the interview into a video, by taking their main points putting them onto a power point and then using a program like Movie Making Programs or MS Movie Maker. It really is endless what you can do… but whatever you do have fun
